      <image:title>About Us - Director / Podiatrist</image:title>
<image:caption>Lachlan Keith Lachlan completed his Masters in Podiatric Medicine and Bachelor of Health Science at La Trobe University in Melbourne. After graduation, Lachlan moved to Sydney where he gained a key insight into biomechanics whilst working alongside one of Sydney’s leading podiatrist. In 2018 he started his own podiatry business in Sydney whereby he fine-tuned his practical skills whilst seeing residents at various St Vincent facilities. Lachlan is a passionately dedicated practitioner with a keen interest in lower limb biomechanics, the human gait cycle, nail surgery and treating foot pain. He places significant importance on the 1st MTP (big toe) joint function. Lachlan is driven by the need to help improve patients’ quality of life. He is best aligned with the tissue stress theory and uses this in his diagnosis and treatment plans. Lachlan enjoys keeping up to date with the latest research whilst incorporating new technologies and treatment modalities for foot pain such as Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy. In his spare time, Lachlan is a keen surfer, golfer and currently training for his first 70.3 ironman. With two border collies Lachlan maintains a very healthy and active lifestyle. Lachlan is looking forward to keeping you on your toes and he hopes to see you soon at Toorak Medical Clinic.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Cosmetic Skin and Nail - Treatment</image:title>
<image:caption>We will visually assess your feet while taking an in-depth medical history. This will help us to get a good understanding of what may be the primary cause. We will complete a pain-free treatment aiming to get your feet back to a “neutral” condition. The nail treatment will consist of trimming, filling and thinning the nails to an appropriate shape. This will be followed by the physical debridement of any hard skin along the plantar surfaces including corns. Using a water spray drill all surfaces will be smoothed and finished with the application of moisturiser.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Orthotics - Custom Orthotic Range</image:title>
<image:caption>The three main types of orthotics available are rigid, semi-flex or soft. Whether you are a runner requiring a full length carbon fibre semi flexible orthotic or a tradesman who is heavy on their feet and requires a rigid orthotic with more support, The Feet Team will prescribe an orthotic which matches your activity and lifestyle. The Feet Team is up to date with the available technology and uses one of the countries leading orthotic labs. Through the use of 3D scanning we are able to design a low profile, slim and comfortable orthotic made for football boots, dress shoes, runners and even high heels.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Nail Surgery - Why did I get an ingrown?</image:title>
<image:caption>It is often hard to identify the exact reason why an ingrown occurs, however the most likely cause are: Poor cutting technique. Picking your toenails. Wearing shoes with a narrow toe box. Wearing steel cap boots at work. Trauma to the nail, through stubbing it or dropping a heavy object on it. Genes, simply having too large of a nail for the space or having highly curved nails (pincer nails). Visiting a Nail Salon.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Nail Surgery - What is involved?</image:title>
<image:caption>Initially we have to create a sterile environment to reduce any chance of infection. Two sites of local anaesthetic are delivered to ensure the toe is completely numb. If you have any issues with needles don't worry we have a topical numbing cream we can apply before administering. After the toe is numb, a tourniquet is applied to reduce blood flow to the area. This will assist with visibility for the practitioner and the efficacy of the phenol. The nail edge is raised from the nail bed and cut at the desired margins to ensure a cosmetic nail afterwards. The problematic nail edge is removed and any extra debris or fragments are removed. A weak acid, phenol is applied to destroy the nail matrix with three 20 second applications. The surgical site is flushed with a sterile saline in preparation for dressing. The tourniquet is removed and carefully bandaged. Take home instructions are given and a redressing appointment is organised.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Ankle Sprain - Symptoms</image:title>
<image:caption>A sprained ankle is painful straight after the incident. Some common symptoms also associated are: - Bruising. - Swelling. - Stiffness. - Tender to palpate. - Inability to bear weight. - Instability of the ankle, with serve cases (full rupture of ligaments) It is very important to complete a full rehabilitation program, because your risk to re-injury increases 40-70% with no post- injury rehabilitation.</image:caption>
